Vehicles in German Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities stated they were alerted by a resident who found a car in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state initial examinations indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for information.

A senior political figure commented the incident made him without words and needed to be solved promptly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
